Other Bands

In addition to the three main bands, there are also several other frequency bands used for specific purposes in cars.
Weather Radio: Weather radio stations broadcast weather forecasts and warnings on the 162.400 to 162.550 MHz band.
CB Radio: Citizen band radios operate on the 26.965 to 27.405 MHz band and are primarily used for short-range communication between truck drivers and other motorists.
Satellite Radio: Satellite radio services such as SiriusXM and Pandora broadcast on the S-band (2332.5 to 2345 MHz) and the L-band (1452 to 1492 MHz).

Selecting a Frequency Band

The best frequency band for you will depend on your location, the type of music you listen to, and the features you want. If you're in a rural area, AM radio may be your best option. If you're in a city or suburban area, FM radio will likely provide better sound quality and less interference. HD Radio offers the best sound quality and additional features, but it may not be available in all areas.

Tuning Your Car Radio

To tune your car radio, simply turn the tuning knob or use the buttons on the radio face. AM and FM stations are identified by their frequency in kHz or MHz, respectively. HD Radio stations are identified by their call letters followed by the letters "-HD." Weather radio stations are identified by their frequency in MHz.
