Materials:
Worsted weight yarn (100-120 yards)
Size H (5 mm) crochet hook
Yarn needle

Gauge: 4 stitches per inch

Abbreviations:
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
sl st - slip stitch

Instructions:

Body of the Hat:
Ch 101.
Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. (100 sc)
Ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc across. (100 sc)
Repeat row 3 until the hat measures 5 inches from the beginning.

Crown of the Hat:
Ch 1, turn. Sc in the first 49 sc, 2 sc in the next sc. (101 sc)
Ch 1, turn. Sc in the first 48 sc, 2 sc in the next sc. (102 sc)
Repeat row 6, increasing by 1 sc each round, until there are 120 sc.

Earflaps:
Left Earflap: Ch 25, turn. Sc in each ch across. (25 sc)
Ch 1, turn. Sc in the first 15 sc, 2 sc in the next sc. (26 sc)
Repeat row 9 until the earflap measures 3 inches from the beginning.
Sl st to the top corner of the hat, turn. Sc around the edge of the earflap, joining it to the hat. (53 sc)
Right Earflap: Repeat rows 8-11 on the other side of the hat.

Ties:
Ch 50, sl st to join into a loop.
Ch 1, dc around the loop (25 dc).
Sl st to the first dc to join. Fasten off.
Repeat to make a second tie.

Finishing:
Weave in any loose ends.
Sew the ties to the earflaps.
