For those cold winter months, a warm and cozy earflap hat is a must-have accessory. This crochet pattern will guide you through creating a stylish and functional hat that will keep your ears toasty warm. Materials
- Medium-weight yarn in your desired color (approx. 250-300 yards)
- Size H/8 (5mm) crochet hook
- Measuring tape
- Yarn needle
- Pom-pom (optional)

- ch: Chain
- sc: Single crochet
- hdc: Half double crochet
- dc: Double crochet
- tr: Treble crochet
- sl st: Slip stitch
- st(s): Stitch(es)
- rnd: Round
Pattern:Hat Body:
1. Ch 35 (or number of chs to reach desired head circumference).
2. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (34 scs)
3. Join with a sl st to the first sc to form a ring.
4. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (34 scs)
5. Repeat Round 2 until the hat measures approximately 7-8 inches in height, or desired height.
Earflap (repeat for both sides):
1. Ch 15.
2. Sc in the second ch from the hook and in each ch across. (14 scs)
3. Join with a sl st to the first sc to form a rectangle.
4. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (14 scs)
5. Repeat Round 2 until the earflap measures approximately 6-7 inches in height, or desired length.
Attaching Earflaps:
1. Fold the hat in half, aligning the center of the hat with the center of one of the earflaps.
2. Using a yarn needle, sew the top edge of the earflap to the inside of the hat, starting from the top and working towards the center.
3. Repeat on the other side for the other earflap.
Crown:
1. Sc around the opening of the hat, making 2 scs in each corner.
2. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
3. Continue working in rounds, increasing 2 scs in each corner on each rnd until the crown is small enough to fit a pom-pom or close off.
4. If you choose to use a pom-pom, attach it to the center of the crown. If you prefer a closed crown, continue decreasing until only a few stitches remain and draw the yarn through to close it off.
Finishing:
1. Weave in any loose ends.
