Materials:
Chunky yarn (100-120 yards)
Size US 10 (6 mm) knitting needles
Faux fur pompom (optional)
Yarn needle

Gauge: 4 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch

Finished Size: Fits an adult head

Instructions:

Hat Band:
Cast on 90 stitches.
Knit in stockinette stitch (knit every row) for 6 rows.
Bind off all stitches.

Ear Flaps:
Cast on 15 stitches.
Knit short rows as follows:

Knit 7 stitches.
Turn and slip the first stitch, purl 6 stitches.
Turn and slip the first stitch, knit 6 stitches.
Repeat steps 2-3 until only 1 stitch remains on the needle.


Bind off all stitches.
Repeat steps 1-3 for the second ear flap.

Assembly:
With the right side of the hat band facing you, fold in half lengthwise and sew the short edges together.
Fold each ear flap in half lengthwise and sew the raw edges together.
Attach the ear flaps to the hat band, placing them about 10 stitches from each end.
Fold the bottom edge of the hat band up and sew to the base of the ear flaps.
Optionally, attach a faux fur pompom to the top of the hat.

Finishing:Weave in any loose ends.
