Knitting the Red Sister Earflap Hat: The Middle Section125


In the previous installment, we covered the beginning stages of knitting the Red Sister Earflap Hat, including casting on, forming the brim, and knitting the first section of the hat. In this middle section, we will continue to expand the hat and create the shape of the earflaps.

Round 1: *Knit 2, purl 2* around. Repeat this pattern until the end of the round.

Round 2: Knit every stitch around.

Round 3-38: Repeat Rounds 1 and 2, continuing to knit the hat in the same pattern.

Round 39: Here we begin the increases that will form the ear flaps. *Knit 1, increase by knitting into the front and back loops of the next stitch, knit 2, purl 2* around. Repeat this pattern until the end of the round.

Round 40: Knit every stitch around.

Round 41: *Knit 2, increase by knitting into the front and back loops of the next stitch, knit 4, purl 2* around. Repeat this pattern until the end of the round.

Round 42: Knit every stitch around.

Round 43: *Knit 3, increase by knitting into the front and back loops of the next stitch, knit 6, purl 2* around. Repeat this pattern until the end of the round.

Round 44: Knit every stitch around.

Round 45: *Knit 4, increase by knitting into the front and back loops of the next stitch, knit 8, purl 2* around. Repeat this pattern until the end of the round.

Round 46: Knit every stitch around.

Round 47: *Knit 5, increase by knitting into the front and back loops of the next stitch, knit 10, purl 2* around. Repeat this pattern until the end of the round.

Round 48: Knit every stitch around.

Round 49: *Knit 6, increase by knitting into the front and back loops of the next stitch, knit 12, purl 2* around. Repeat this pattern until the end of the round.

Round 50: Knit every stitch around.

After Round 50, you will have completed the ear flaps. The next section will involve decreasing to shape the crown of the hat.
