Worsted-weight yarn in color of choice
Crochet hook size H (5 mm)
Yarn needle
Scissors

Gauge

4 stitches and 3 rows = 1 inch in half double crochet stitch

Instructions

Foundation Row



Chain 120. Do not join.

Row 1



Half double crochet (hdc) into the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. (119 hdc)

Row 2



Chain 2 (counts as hdc). Hdc in the same stitch and in each hdc across. (119 hdc)

Row 3



Chain 2. Hdc in the same stitch. *Skip the next hdc, hdc in the next hdc.* Repeat from * to * across. (89 hdc)

Rows 4-15



Chain 2. Hdc in the same stitch and in each hdc across. (89 hdc)

Flower Edging



Join yarn to the corner stitch of the bonnet. Chain 4. Slip stitch (sl st) into the next 3 stitches. Chain 3. 5 double crochet (dc) into the same stitch. Chain 3. Sl st in the next 3 stitches. Chain 4. Join to the top of the ch-4 at the beginning of the round.
Next Round: Chain 1. Single crochet (sc) in the same stitch. *Chain 3. Sc in the next dc.* Repeat from * to * around. Chain 3. Sc in the last round. Join. Fasten off.

Ties



Chain 120. Cut yarn, leaving a tail. Sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. Tie a loose knot at the end of each tie.

Finishing



Sew the ties to the bottom corners of the bonnet. Fold the bonnet in half and sew along the back seam.
Weave in any loose ends.
Block the bonnet. Place it on a flat surface and use pins to shape it. Allow it to dry completely.

Variations



Make the brim wider or narrower by adjusting the number of rows in the flower edging.
Use different colors of yarn to create a striped or color-blocked bonnet.
Add a pom-pom or other embellishments to the top of the bonnet.
