Crochet a Cozy Squirrel Earflap Baby Hat15

Materials:* Worsted weight yarn in main color (MC) and contrast color (CC)
* Size H (5.00mm) crochet hook
* Scissors
* Yarn needle
* Stitch marker

Gauge:* 16 stitches and 18 rows = 4 inches in double crochet

Abbreviations:* ch - chain
* dc - double crochet
* sc - single crochet
* sl st - slip stitch
* st(s) - stitch(es)

Instructions:Earflaps:
1. With MC, ch 20.
2. Row 1: Dc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. Turn. (19 dc)
3. Row 2-5: Ch 1, dc in each st across. Turn. (19 dc)
4. Fold the earflap in half and sl st the edges together.

Hat:5. With MC, ch 6.
6. Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (5 sc)
7. Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around. Join with a sl st. (10 sc)
8. Row 3-12: Ch 1, dc in each st around. Join with a sl st. (10 dc)
9. Row 13: Ch 1, dc in the first st, (dc, ch 1) repeat 8 times, dc in the last st. Join with a sl st. (18 dc)
10. Row 14-17: Ch 1, dc in each st around. Join with a sl st. (18 dc)
11. Row 18: Ch 1, dec (dc 2 together) 9 times around. Join with a sl st. (9 dc)
12. Cut yarn and pull through the final st.

Assembly:13. Fold the top of the hat down about 1 inch and secure it with a stitch marker. This will create the brim.
14. Sew the earflaps to the sides of the hat, just above the brim.
15. With CC, embroider eyes, nose, and whiskers on the front of the hat.

Finishing:16. Tie a small tassel with CC and attach it to the top of the hat as a pompon.
17. Weave in any loose ends.
