How to Make a Faux Fur Earflap Hat383
Faux fur earflap hats are a stylish and warm way to keep your head and ears protected from the cold. They are relatively easy to make, and you can customize them to your own liking by choosing different colors and fabrics.
Materials* 1 yard of faux fur fabric
* 1/2 yard of lining fabric
* 1/4 yard of interfacing
* 1 skein of yarn or embroidery thread
* A sewing machine
* A pair of scissors
* A tape measure
* A pencil or fabric marker
Instructions1. Cut out the hat pieces. You will need to cut out two pieces of faux fur fabric, two pieces of lining fabric, and two pieces of interfacing. The hat pieces should be cut in the following shapes:
* Faux fur pieces: Two rectangles, each measuring 12 inches by 24 inches
* Lining pieces: Two rectangles, each measuring 11 inches by 23 inches
* Interfacing pieces: Two rectangles, each measuring 10 inches by 22 inches
2. Sew the interfacing to the wrong side of the faux fur pieces. This will help to stabilize the fabric and make it easier to sew.
3. Sew the lining pieces to the right side of the faux fur pieces. Be sure to match up the edges of the fabric carefully.
4. Fold the hat in half, right sides together, and sew around the edges. Leave a 2-inch opening at the back of the hat for turning.
5. Turn the hat right side out and press it flat. Topstitch around the edges to secure the lining.
6. Make the earflaps. Cut two pieces of faux fur fabric in the shape of earflaps. The earflaps should be about 6 inches wide and 12 inches long. Fold the earflaps in half, right sides together, and sew around the edges. Leave a 2-inch opening at the bottom of each earflap for turning.
7. Turn the earflaps right side out and press them flat. Topstitch around the edges to secure the opening.
8. Sew the earflaps to the hat. Position the earflaps on the sides of the hat, about 2 inches from the top edge. Sew the earflaps in place using a blind stitch.
9. Make the ties. Cut two pieces of yarn or embroidery thread, each measuring about 18 inches long. Thread the ties through the holes at the back of the hat and knot them securely.
10. Your faux fur earflap hat is now complete! Enjoy wearing it to keep your head and ears warm this winter.
Tips* You can use any type of faux fur fabric for this project. However, some fabrics are more difficult to sew than others. If you are a beginner, I recommend using a short-pile faux fur.
* You can also use any type of lining fabric for this project. However, I recommend using a fabric that is soft and comfortable against the skin.
* If you want to make your hat more durable, you can add a layer of batting between the faux fur and lining fabrics.
* You can customize your hat by adding embellishments such as pom-poms, tassels, or sequins.
