Materials:- Worsted weight yarn: approximately 200 yards
- Size 8 US (5mm) circular knitting needles (24 inches or longer)
- Cable needle
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors

Abbreviations:CO: cast on
K: knit
P: purl
CO: cast on
Rnd: Rounds
St(s): stitch(es)
Rep: Repeat
Sl: Slip
BO: Bind Off

Instructions:

Cast On and Knit Ribbed Band- CO 96 sts
- Join in the round
- K1, P1 for 4 rounds

Hat Body- K in the round for 7 inches, or until hat reaches desired length
- BO all stitches

Neck Warmer Body- CO 96 sts
- Join in the round
- K in the round for 10 inches, or until neck warmer reaches desired length
- BO all stitches

Attach the Neck Warmer to the Hat- Lay the hat and neck warmer flat, with right sides together
- Match the centers of the two pieces and pin them together
- Using the tapestry needle, sew the hat and neck warmer together with a mattress stitch

Create the Cable Pattern (Optional)- On the hat body, divide the stitches into 4 sections of 24 stitches each: sections A, B, C, and D.
- On the first round, work A: K24; B: Sl 12 to cable needle and hold at back of work, K12, K12 from cable needle; C: K24; D: Sl 12 to cable needle and hold at back of work, K12, K12 from cable needle
- On the second round, work A: P24; B: P24; C: P24; D: P24
- Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 for the desired number of cable repeats.

Finishing- Weave in any loose ends
- Block the hat and neck warmer to shape

Tips:- For a warmer hat, use bulky yarn or double up the worsted weight yarn.
- You can adjust the length of the hat and neck warmer by knitting more or less rounds.
- For a more decorative look, add pom poms or tassels to the ends.
- This pattern can also be used to create a hooded scarf. Simply extend the neck warmer body and leave the top open.
