New Earflap Hat Knitting Tutorial: Episode 2174

In this episode of our knitting tutorial series, we will continue creating our stylish earflap hat, focusing on the earflaps and shaping the crown.

Materials:
- Medium-weight worsted yarn in two colors
- Size 8 (5mm) circular knitting needles, 16" and 24"
- Tapestry needle

Step 1: Knit the Earflaps
- Using a contrasting color yarn, cast on 36 stitches onto the 16" circular needles.
- Join the ends and knit in the round for 5 rows.

Step 2: Shape the Earflaps
- Divide the stitches into three sections: 12 stitches for the front, 12 stitches for the side, and 12 stitches for the back.
- Knit Front: Knit the front 12 stitches for 3 rows.
- Transfer Side Stitches: Move the 12 side stitches to a stitch holder or waste yarn.
- Knit Back: Knit the back 12 stitches for 3 rows.
- Repeat: Repeat Steps 2-4 until you reach the desired length for the earflaps (approximately 6-8 inches).

Step 3: Join and Shape the Crown
- Knit the front and back earflaps together using Kitchener stitch or a three-needle bind-off.
- Continue knitting in the round with the 24" needles, joining the remaining stitches from the front and back earflaps.
- Knit in the round for approximately 2-3 inches, or until you reach the desired depth for the crown.
- Decrease 12 stitches: Knit 2 together around the entire round to decrease 12 stitches.

Step 4: Continue Decreasing and Bind Off
- Knit the next round without decreasing.
- Knit the following round, decreasing 6 stitches evenly around the entire round.
- Repeat Step 4 until you have 12 stitches remaining.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and thread it through the remaining stitches.
- Pull tight to bind off and secure.
- Weave in any loose ends.

Finishing Touches:
- Attach the earflaps to the sides of the hat using a tapestry needle and yarn.
- Embellish with pom-poms, tassels, or any other decorative elements as desired.
